Work in progress: numbers are still being tuned. Messalith is in development. This wiki is generated from the game's current build, so every figure here can change.

Armour

Every piece of armour in Messalith: hide, bone and horn, Tuatha glass taken from the fallen, copper and iron that dent and go back to the forge.

Armour is worn piece by piece, one piece to a slot: head, body, shoulders, forearms, hips, shins and a shield. Each piece carries small numbers, and they add up.

  • Armour comes off the damage of every weapon hit, never below one point of damage, and a full set gives at most 2. Psychic powers, fire and bleeding are not weapon hits, so armour does nothing against them.
  • Defence comes off every shooter's chance to hit, up to 10 in all.
  • Weight slows the wearer. Nothing worn changes anyone's numbers until it's equipped.

A shield needs a free hand, so it never goes with a two-handed weapon: the bow, the composite bow or a rifle.

Pieces are fitted on the loadout screen at camp, where every exile's figure shows what they wear.

Made at camp

Hide, bone, sinew, fibre and wood make the first sets. A Romantic or a hunter's outpost keeps the hides coming.

Tuatha glass

The stained glass of the Tuatha Dé Danann is the best armour in the game and can't be made. It comes home only as loot, from Tuatha fighters the squad brings down. A taken Tuatha site always gives one more piece.

Glass has a cost besides its weight. It catches the light, and an enemy pod that hasn't noticed the squad sees a glass-clad exile from further off, up to 2 tiles further with the whole set.

Copper and iron

Metal is rare and costly. Ore is smelted or bloomed at the forge and beaten into plates, and the plates go into a few pieces only: scale and lamellar shirts, a scale collar, bracers, a disc on a hide cuirass or studs on a jerkin, a boss on a shield, and crude caps of three shapes. Bone and horn lamellar came in with them, the same laced plates in cheaper stuff.

Iron is the stronger and heavier of the two. Copper is lighter and cheaper, catches the light a little, and dents. Any mission in which the wearer takes a weapon hit puts a dent in each copper piece they wear, each dent a point off (defence first, then armour), up to 3 dents. Back at camp the forge hammers a dent out for 1 charcoal a time.
