The crown forge and salvage
Forging and re-forging Neuro-Crowns at the Messalith camp, recharging power cells, repairing rifles and refilling Rift med-kits, with every cost.
Crowns
The camp starts with the crowns it took from the Court, and crowns are always scarce. Two roads bring more. Taking the Anvil sends Tier III crowns. And once the right studies are done, the camp's own crown forge can make them, slowly.
The forge works one job at a time, and every exile on the Forge order adds to it. The smiths work on Earth Sciences. A job's materials are paid when it starts.
| Job | Study first | Skill | Takes | Work | Gives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Forge a Tier I crown | Crown Lattice | Earth Sciences 3+ | 6 Court crystal, 2 Choir brine-glass, 2 charcoal | 24 | Tier I |
| Re-forge a Tier I crown into Tier II | Tuned Lattice | Earth Sciences 3+ | a Tier I crown, 8 Court crystal, 4 Choir brine-glass, 1 power cell | 30 | Tier II |
| Re-forge a Tier II crown into Tier III | Resonant Lattice | Earth Sciences 4+ | a Tier II crown, 12 Court crystal, 6 Choir brine-glass, 2 power cells | 32 | Tier III |
- The forge makes a new Tier I crown only while the camp owns fewer than 5 crowns, whatever their tiers. The Anvil's crowns aren't capped.
- Re-forging never adds a crown. It takes one the camp has and gives it back a tier higher.
- Crowns aren't lost when their wearer dies.
Power cells
The camp keeps a store of spare power cells, charged and spent. A new camp has a few, and about one exile in 3 brings a dead one through the Rift. Spare charged cells can be loaded into the rifle at squad select. See crowns, conduction and gear.
Spent cells are recharged at the charging frame, once the Cell Resonance study is done, for a piece of Court crystal each. The Deep Charge study puts 1 more cell in the rifle on every mission.
Rifles and med-kits
With a salvage bench, a rifle whose carrier falls on a mission the squad still wins comes home damaged instead of lost, and can be repaired. A lost mission still loses it. Rift med-kits heal in the field and can't revive. A used one comes home empty if its carrier lives, and the Rift Pharmacy study lets the apothecary refill it.
| Rift salvage | A new camp has |
|---|---|
| Salvaged Rifle | 1 |
| Power cell | 1 |
| Spent cell | 2 |
| Rift med-kit | 2 |
