Lore and world

The world of Messalith: the one-way Rift, the Neuro-Crowns, the dried sea, the two off-world peoples who got here first, and the life of the period.

Six million years ago the Mediterranean was a white desert of salt, kilometres below the sea that would one day fill it. The exiles arrive into that world with whatever they could carry, and find it already taken.

In this section

  • The Rift and the exilesWho the exiles are, why they left the Concord, and what waits on the far side of a Rift that only opens one way, six million years into the past.
  • Neuro-CrownsWhat a Neuro-Crown is, what its tier allows, how conduction feeds a crowned exile's weapons, and why the camp never has enough of them.
  • The dry seaEurope in the Messinian, when the Mediterranean dried to salt and brine. The real geography the campaign map is built from, and the land it left.
  • The Glass CourtThe Glass Court: the crystalline, elven people who hold the western uplands, forge the crowns and take the exiles as labour and as minds for their crowns.
  • The Brine ChoirThe Brine Choir: the many-voiced, brine-adapted people of the dying sea, who fight with a song that drains the Will every psychic power runs on.
  • Plants and animals of the periodThe trees, shrubs and wild horses of Messalith's battlefields, each one documented for the Mediterranean region six million years ago.
