Work in progress: numbers are still being tuned. Messalith is in development. This wiki is generated from the game's current build, so every figure here can change.

Enemies

Enemies

Every enemy in Messalith, from the Glass Court's Wardens to the Brine Choir's giant Bourdon: how the enemy thinks, how pods work and how a force is built.

The exiles fight two powers. The Glass Court fields crowned Wardens and three elites in stained-glass plate. The Brine Choir fields singing Choristers and three other forms, from small skirmishers to a giant. Unclaimed country has no enemy of its own: raiding parties from the nearer power roam it.

How the enemy thinks

All enemies share one way of choosing where to stand. Each weighs the tiles it can reach for cover against the exiles it knows about, for flanking shots, for exposure to flanking, for high ground and for staying apart from its own side. Then it fires, or sets overwatch if no shot is good enough. Some kinds have their own habits on top: the ones that fight from a distance keep a band of range, the blades close in, the Choristers pick on low Will and the Iridant on the undazzled. Each unit's entry says which.

  • Pods start unaware and wake when they see the squad or come under attack. See sight and fog.
  • The two powers never mix. A power's kinds share pods. The Court and the Choir never share one, and never end a move within 2 tiles of each other.
  • Downed exiles are ignored. The enemy never shoots at someone already down.
  • Enemies have no Will. They never panic and they cast for free.
  • Enemies never craft. What they carry is what they always carry.

How big a force is

A force's size comes from the region's garrison and the kind of mission. See missions. Each power then splits the force between its kinds, with its core soldier never less than a third of it. The tables are on each power's page.
