Overwatch

Overwatch in Messalith: watching ground instead of shooting now, the Aim penalty, the Seer's Long Watch, and when the enemy sets overwatch of its own.

Setting overwatch

An exile on overwatch spends the rest of their turn watching. During the enemy's phase they fire once, at the first enemy that moves into a tile they can see and reach with their weapon. The shot is at -15 Aim. After it, the watch is over.

  • Overwatch lasts until the exile's next turn, then ends whether it fired or not.
  • An exile who panics or goes down loses their watch.
  • A Fugitive halves the overwatch penalty. See traits.
  • A pod that scrambles to cover as it wakes doesn't draw overwatch fire.

The Seer's Long Watch

A Seer at Zenith on the watch branch can call a Long Watch: they go on overwatch, and every mate within its radius who is on overwatch that enemy turn fires at +20 Aim on top of the usual. See the Seer.

Enemy overwatch

The enemy watches too. An enemy that can't find a shot worth taking sets overwatch instead: a Court soldier when its best chance is under 35%, a Chorister when it is under 30%. An enemy with nobody to shoot at and no trail to follow waits on overwatch too. A Voice's Faltering makes the enemy drop its watch, and Dread stops a foe from watching for its next turn.
