Uncrowned
Uncrowned exiles in Messalith: no psychic powers, but they carry the rifle, patch up the wounded with Field Dressing and keep the squad steady.
An Uncrowned exile wears no crown and has no psychic power, unless they are one of the rare Awakened. They aren't second best. The crowns are few, so most of the camp is Uncrowned at any time, and the squad's salvage is usually in their hands: the rifle loses nothing in an Uncrowned carrier, since a crown never adds to salvage anyway.
What they bring
Everything that doesn't come from a crown still counts:
- The rifle. Best weapon in the squad early on, with 3 power cells a mission as standard. See crowns, conduction and gear.
- Field Dressing. An exile with Medicine 3 or better can heal 2 HP on themselves or a mate beside them, 1 time a mission, and it gets a downed mate back up at 2 HP. It costs no Will.
- Command. At Command 4 or better, every mate beside them gets +10 Will.
- Kit. Dressing kits, splints, poultices, tonics and special arrows from the workshop work for anyone. See items.
- Skills and training. Aim and HP from training rank, Survival's extra sight, Combat Arts with primitive weapons.
Crowning one
A crown can go on any exile with potential in the crown's discipline. Putting one on a new recruit wakes them to Glimmer for good, and from then on their training decides how far their power can grow. Crowns are assigned at squad select, mission by mission.
